New Board Members for HopScotch

Published 12 Sep 2024

HopScotch is lucky enough to have the guidance and support of a small board. They keep themselves in the background, but are such a vital part of our work - and their generosity in giving up their time and expertise to help HopScotch is really appreciated.

We are delighted to welcome two new faces to our board, both from the legal world.

In this news update we'd like to introduce you to the first of these two new members (watch this space for the second introduction coming soon!) - welcome to Laura Macdonald!

Meet Laura...

Laura has specialised in employment law for over 15 years.  She has significant experience representing both employer and employee clients, and advises on all employment law matters, with a particular focus on contentious matters.  Laura is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Employment law and regularly advises in the areas of discrimination (including victimisation and harassment), whistleblowing, redundancy, ordinary and automatic unfair dismissal, constructive unfair dismissal, worker status, agricultural worker rights, breach of contract, agency worker rights, settlement agreements and transfers of employment. Laura is also a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association’s Training Committee and the Law Society of Scotland’s Employment Law Sub-Committee.”

 Favourite childhood holiday memory…

A childhood memory of mine must be hitting the waves with my dad during a holiday in Cornwall to try to learn how to surf on a boogie board OR a holiday to Donegal staying in a cottage surrounded by fields and sheep, during which there was rather little to do so I taught myself the tin whistle!

 Why HopScotch?

I wanted to join the Hopscotch Committee because I admire the incredible work that is carried out by Hopscotch for children and young people faced with difficult circumstances.  It is a cause that I feel very passionate about, and feel that every young person deserves to have a holiday and a break away from the challenges they face.
